How much snow will New Hampshire get tonight? See forecast totals

Areas of New Hampshire could see a few inches of snow as a winter storm moves in Wednesday night into Thursday, thought the Seacoast area is only expected to see a rain-snow mix.

“Last week’s storm fell on a holiday, but this one will fall on a work day,” National Weather Service meteorologist Jerry Combs said Wednesday morning. “That means it could be a messy commute on Thursday (December 5).”

The snow is expected to start around 7pm tonight. Much of the state is under a winter road advisory, but the Seacoast area is not.

Here’s what you need to know about the looming winter storm.

How many inches of snow are expected?

The snowfall, which starts tonight (Dec. 4), will fall in the non-coastal areas of New Hampshire, Combs said, adding that the coastal areas of the state will see “a rain-snow mix.”

“We are confident that there will be more snow away from these coastal areas,” Combs said. “Inland, toward the foothills of Maine, we’re looking at about 3-5 inches of snow between Wednesday night and Thursday.

He added that the southernand central parts of New Hampshire could see “6-8 inches or so. In the higher ground, we could see more.”

How cold will it be in the next few days?

When the storm moves out later Thursday, it will be followed by very cold temperatures Friday and Saturday, Combs said.

“With wind chill, we can be in single digitsWhen it comes to temperatures, Combs added. “There is very cold weather right behind this storm system.”

Temperatures were expected to be 5-15 degrees below the historical average at times this week across New England and other parts of the country, according to AccuWeather meteorologistsas Artic air moves into the region.

How strong are gusts expected?

The gusts of wind will occur Wednesday evening and Thursday, and is expected to subside Friday evening.

Combs said some of those gusts on Thursday could be between 30-35 miles per hour, while a few of them could even reach 40 miles per hour.

“They will be strong enough to possibly move some snow around,” he said. “They should drop Friday night though.”
