PHOENIX − The Rate Bowl is finally here.

Rutgers football today will play Kansas State at Chase Field, looking to end its season with an eighth win and send its seniors out on a high note.

As for the opt-outs, coach Greg Schiano said Tuesday that running back Kyle Monangai will not play in the game but will instead assist the coaches.

Everyone else who is eligible is expected to participate, including linebacker Tyreem Powell and left tackle Hollin Pierce.

1Q, 11:21: Kansas State takes an early lead

The Wildcats got down to the Rutgers 11 with the help of a 43-yard run by Dylan Edwards, but QB Avery Johnson throws three straight incomplete passes and Kansas State settles for a 29-yard field goal.

Greg Schiano appears to be calling defensive plays with Joe Harasymiak, now the head coach at UMass. Schiano said earlier this week that they would call plays as a staff, but it looks like (from our vantage point at least) he’s the one making the calls.
