Huskies fall to Yale in Nutmeg Classic

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The no. 14 ranked UConn women’s hockey team lost to the Yale Bulldogs, 3-1 in the opening round of the Nutmeg Classic on Friday night.

UConn goalie Tia Chan was excellent between the posts and made a season-high 35 saves.

Junior forward Kyla Josifovic scored the game’s first goal midway through the first period on the power play, the Huskies’ seventh power play goal of the season. Josifovic scores his fourth goal of the season, tying his season high from last year.

UConn went into the first intermission with a 1-0 lead as shots favored Yale 15-4 in the first period.

Yale tied the game midway through the second period on the power play when Mariya Rauf scored her third goal of the season.

The game remained tied at one point into the third period with shots in favor of Yale 22-10 in the second period.

Yale’s Carina DiAntonio scored the game-winner with 1:37 left in regulation. DiAntonio later iced the game with an empty netter with 30 seconds left, making it 3-1.
