Earlier this month, we published The Pitch’s annual Best of Kansas City question. You can take a look at the results of the reader poll here. The issue also included a list, compiled and written by our editorial staff, of some local people, places and things that we thought clearly won 2024. We will publish these articles online throughout November.

Here we are again, raving about how Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs are the best in the world. Well, they are, or at least have been for the past two years now. As the team enters the 2024-25 season as back-to-back Super Bowl Champions, it’s time to face the truth: the Chiefs are a dynasty.

When Mahomes became the starting quarterback back in 2018, he went on to throw for 5,097 yards, 50 TDs and just 12 INTs, and would later be crowned MVP for the 2018 season. Although the team lost to Tom Brady and the Patriots in the AFC Championship that year, he was still the MVP in the eyes of Kansas Citians. And there was a lingering feeling that we were going to get another Super Bowl win soon.

Six years later, the Chiefs have claimed three Super Bowls under Mahomes’ reign and show no signs of letting up. After kicking off the 2024-25 season 10-1, the team and city are hoping another Super Bowl ring is on the way. The three-peat is close and the locals are paying attention. As the season continues, we can only hope that the Red Kingdom will be the first to win three consecutive Super Bowl championships. Tom Brady can’t say he’s done it.
