Does Spotify Wrapped include listening data from January to December?

Despite rumors that Spotify Wrapped only collects data from January 1 to October 31, platform recently confirmed that the round-up actually tracks listening data past Halloween.

After social media users joked that their time to manipulate their listening data would end on October 31, the audio streamer shared a Halloween graphic on X of a jack-o’-lantern filled with candy and a message that read: ” Spotify Wrapped doesn’t stop counting on October 31.”

The platform hasn’t confirmed when exactly it will stop tracking listener data for Wrapped this year, but we do know that it will at least be over by October 31st.

What is Spotify Wrapped?

The idea behind Spotify Wrapped came in 2015when the mega-popular music platform released its Year in Music feature that allows users to see which artists they listened to the most over the previous 365 days. The Year in Music campaign shared much of the same data that Spotify Wrapped does, including listeners’ most played songs and how many hours of music they listened to in total.

However, the feature got a major facelift the following year, complete with the new Spotify Wrapped name. The marketing campaign has apparently become more and more viral every year as Spotify improves its graphic design and data customization game.

In 2018, Spotify included data about the astrological signs of the artists that a user listened to the most during the year. In 2019, Spotify Wrapped adopted an Instagram Story format that allows users to easily share (or showcase) their highly curated listening history to their social media stories. In 2020, the platform included podcast listening data.

In last year’s Spotify Wrapped, listeners were awarded a “Sound Town” – to match users with a city tailored to their favorite genres and artists.

Only time will tell what new, skewed data will emerge as part of users’ 2024 Spotify Wrapped portfolios.

Does Apple Music have an end of the year feature?

In 2022, Apple Music announced its version of Spotify’s end-of-year promotion called Apple Music Replay. Apple’s feature includes much of the same listening data as Spotify’s, including a user’s top songs, top albums, top artists and top genres from across the year.

Apple Music Replay works a little differently than Spotify Wrapped. Starting this year, it began releasing monthly Replay experiences that highlight a user’s listening habits at the end of each month.

Apple Music users can access their Replay by finding the Listen Now tab in the app, scrolling to the Replay section, tapping the Replay ’24 playlist, then selecting the plus button in the top right. After that, Apple Music users can view their Replay ’24 throughout the year in the Playlists section of their library.

Similar to Spotify, Apple Music users will also receive a large Replay ’24 roundup designed for sharing to social media. In 2023, November 28 was released.
