The Chiefs urged to sign the $90 million All-Pro, who is surprisingly available

The Kansas City Chiefs lost their first game on Sunday against the Buffalo Bills. They could look to get more outside help if they want to three-peat as Super Bowl champions.

FanSided’s Mark Powell urged the Chiefs to sign former Miami Dolphins corner Xavien Howard.

“The problem with Kansas City’s secondary is not talent, but age. Nazeeh Johnson plays opposite McDuffie, but he would be better suited with some solid depth behind him, which the Chiefs don’t currently have,” Powell wrote. “Fortunately for the Chiefs, Xavien Howard is a free agent. Howard received a contract offer from the Cincinnati Bengals not too long ago but chose not to take it. If Howard wants to come calling, the Chiefs are his best option.”

Howard was an All-Pro in 2020 when he had 10 interceptions and 20 passes defensed. He signed a five-year, $90 million deal with the Dolphins before the 2022 season. However, injuries, cap space and a slight decline led to the Dolphins releasing him before the season. He had just seven interceptions since the end of his All-Pro season.

The Chiefs defense looked weak against Josh Allen and the Bills. Howard could add a playmaker that could be the difference in a game like the Chiefs played on Sunday.

“Josh Allen ran wild on the Chiefs defense on Sunday, proving they are indeed beatable,” Powell wrote. “Howard is the type of player who can make a big play when it matters most, especially in the postseason.”
