In the opening episode of Season 5, Part 2 of Yellowstone, it was revealed that Claire Dutton (played by Dawn Olivieri) was behind the death of series protagonist John Dutton (Kevin Costner). In the latest episode, Claire finally got her comeuppance when her plan was revealed. Police in Montana are now considering John’s death a homicide and are resuming the investigation into his death. This scares the assassin who had been hired by Sarah to kill him. We see the assassin send two of his men to murder Sarah to save himself. The final scene of the episode sees Sarah riddled with bullets and left for dead. This brought an end to a character that has been hated and reviled by fans of the series.

Olivieri, in conversation with The Hollywood Reporterjoked that she has always played characters who are hated and good to kill, having also played the villain in the 1883 Yellowstone prequel. “For a long time in my career I play a really good character to kill,” said she with a laugh, adding that when the show began, she had no idea she would be ‘the most hated villain in the whole world.’ .

However, Olivieri added that Kevin Costner’s character was always going to die, but she didn’t know how it would hasten the show’s end. “I knew there was an exit strategy for him, but I don’t think I should have gone as fast as I did. I think it would happen (with John), but because we had to end it all. with the speed of lightning, I think it had to go down as it went to go full throttle to find out how I am grateful to tie up each end and move things together.
