Eagles veteran ruled out with concussion vs. Rams after hitting helmet (UPDATE)

UPDATE: Eagles cornerback Darius Slay has been ruled out against the Rams with a concussion.

###

Eagles cornerback Darius Slay didn’t get up right away after taking a hit to the helmet in the third quarter against the Rams and went to the locker room. Slay has been replaced by Isaiah Rodgers, who has been the Eagles’ top running back this season.

The Rams have targeted Rodgers. He was called for pass interference on Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua while covering him in the end zone. Two plays later, Rams wide receiver Demarcus Robinson hit Rodgers for a two-yard touchdown.

Slay also got bangs during the first quarter.

He collided with teammate Reed Blankenship while trying to tackle Rams running back Kyren Williams on a 27-yard run. Slay and Blankenship were both evaluated by Philadelphia’s medical staff and missed only a few games.

On the following play, Rodgers ripped the ball out of Williams’ hands and it was recovered by Eagles linebacker Nakobe Dean.

Slay has struggled with injuries this season.

He missed the Eagles’ Week 9 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars with a groin injury. And in their Week 10 win over the Cowboys, Slay missed part of the first half with a knee injury.

Rodgers has done a good job stepping in for Slay in the past. But he has given up a couple of big catches to Nacua, including a 29-yard fourth-and-1 conversion.
