Sean McVay admits Kyren Williams’ fumble was a costly mistake

The Los Angeles Rams were defeated handily by Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday Night Football by a final score of 37-20, and one of the early signs of danger was a Kyren Williams fumble in the first quarter. Was that play the reason LA lost? Sean McVay told reporters it was a costly mistake in the third year.

“I thought we continued to battle…we ended up getting a scoring drive right after that, but it took…it was tough because I thought our offensive line came out ready to go, I thought , that Kyren hit them. holes…you know, you’re already in scoring position right there, and for us to turn it around, when we did that, it was probably expensive.”

Williams is a talented running back for the Rams, and he’s been their best running back since Todd Gurley, but he’ll work himself out of a job if he continues to cough up the football.

What strikes me is not just the fumbles, it’s when they happen. Williams lost a fumble against the Eagles on a drive the Rams dominated. He also lost a fumble coming out of the half against Green Bay Packersand he lost a terrible fumble in the Rams’ loss to Miami Dolphins a few weeks ago.

One fumble is a mistake, three fumbles, each one potentially costing the Rams a chance to take control of a game, is a trend, and it’s a bad trend for Williams as rookie running back Blake Corum waits in the background to his shot takes the lead back assignments.

Does McVay think his team can bounce back after this upsetting loss?

“I know this team has the ability to respond”

The season isn’t over, but the Rams continue to give up opportunities to get above a .500 record, and they continue to have an exceptional season with a record of 5-6 through 11 games.

Where does the team go from here? We will look more at good and bad in week 13.
