Spoiler alert! This post discusses plot details from episode 1 of season 5 of “Yellowstone.”

The second half of Season 5 of “Yellowstone” continues this Sunday with the release of a brand new episode.

The Dutton children continue to deal with the fallout from the death of their father, Governor John Dutton (Kevin Costner), after the season began with emergency crews at the governor’s mansion. Beth (Kelly Reilly) and her brother Kayce (Luke Grimes) push through the police tape to see what’s going on, only to see a gun on the bathroom floor and blood. While the camera never shows John’s face, you can see his body sprawled on the ground and the despairing look on his children’s faces.

Costner played John Dutton since its premiere on the Paramount Network in 2018, but announced in June that he would not be returning for what were billed as the final episodes. The actor was not among the countless Americans who lined up for the season’s long-awaited premiere.

“I didn’t see it,” Costner told SiriusXM’s “The Michael Smerconish Program” earlier this month. “I’ll be completely honest. I didn’t know it actually aired last night. It’s a swear-to-God moment. I swear to God. I’ve seen ads with my face all over the place and I’m like, ‘Well , I’m not in it.’ I’m not in this season.”

How to watch the third episode of ‘Yellowstone’ season 5, part 2

New episodes will be broadcast on Sunday evenings at 8 PM ET/PT on the Paramount Network.

You won’t be able to stream “Yellowstone” episodes on Paramount+announced the platform, and it’s not available with any of the service’s subscription plans. If you have a login for your TV provider, you can log into the Paramount Network and look that way.

Previous seasons of “Yellowstone” are streaming Peacock.

Beth Dutton will go ‘hurricane’ and avenge John Dutton

In an interview with USA TODAY released ahead of Season 5, Part 2, Kelly Reilly, who plays Beth Dutton, said that John Dutton’s most loyal offspring will be devastated by his father’s soon-to-be-revealed dark destiny.

“There’s only so much a woman can take. He’s the center of her soul,” Reilly said. “What’s that going to do to this woman? It’s going to turn her into a hurricane.”

Reilly said she’s known how “Yellowstone” would end since the show started in 2018. Costner’s untimely departure hasn’t fundamentally changed that course. “It shouldn’t happen so soon,” she said. “But the fact that we got to return poetically to the authentic vision of the show is satisfying.”
