First quarter

The Patriots lost the toss, resulting in Drake Maye taking the field first Sunday. Their first drive of the game didn’t go far as a false start by Vederian Lowe set up a 3rd and 8 screen to Ja’Lynn Polk, who picked up just seven yards.

Miami’s first drive started with an 11-yard drive starter to Jonnu Smith. But New England’s defense then held when Marte Mapu broke up a third-down pass to the tight end.

New England overcame a pair of false start penalties on both tackles to move across midfield on their next drive — highlighted by a pair of 14-yard gains by Antonio Gibson. A completion and scramble by Maye picked up 20 more yards before another penalty led to a 3rd and 16, where a pass to Stevenson picked up just three. Joey Slye’s 45-yard field goal was no good as it hit the right upright.

Second Quarter

The Dolphins’ next drive started the same way as the first with a completion to Jonnu Smith for a first down. Tua kept it in the air and found explosive gains apart to Jaylen Waddle and then Tyreek Hill for 34 total yards. A penalty on Anfernee Jennings then gave Miami a free first down on 3rd-and-3 inside the red zone, which led to a third-down touchdown to Jonnu Smith. (Patriots 0: 7 Dolphins)

A first-down loss on the ground led to a 3rd-and-16, where rookie pass rusher Chop Robinson hit a chip and right tackle Trey Jacobs to get to Maye for a sack. New England then struck.
