Actor Richard Gere flips off the “Today” show’s Savannah Guthrie on live TV

While promoting his new thriller, “The Agency,” “Pretty Woman” actor Richard Gere visited the “Today” show.

He then proceeded to take on anchor Savannah Guthrie by surprise during their conversation.

While talking about the new Paramount+ show on Nov. 20, Gere and Guthrie shared a sneak peek at the series.

The scene showed Gere intensely interacting with his co-stars before ending early.

When the cameras showed Guthrie and Gere back in the studio, Gere flipped Guthrie the bird. Guthrie quickly placed his notes over Gere’s hand to censor the obscene gesture.

“You just made an obscene gesture on this family morning show!” exclaimed a stunned Guthrie. “I’m bleeding you!”

“You know, Cher was here and made an F-bomb yesterday, so I don’t know what’s going on!” she said still stunned.

“You didn’t show, but that’s what I did in the play!” Gere explained, revealing that the show cut the clip early. “That’s what the clip was!”

Richard Gere flashed his middle finger at Savannah Guthrie.

“That’s what the clip was, but we cut that part out. But then you did it live!” Guthrie explained.

“I could see it, but it made no sense without it!” Gere continued.

He then insisted that the move was not deliberate. “My hand did it, I have no control!”

This is Gere’s first ever TV series.

Over the course of his long career, TV Guide reports that Gere has at least 66 film credits.

In the end, Guthrie and Gere were able to laugh about the moment after Gere apologized, said “Oh sorry” and admitted he didn’t realize he was on camera.
