PayPal is back online after a 2-hour outage that left thousands around the world unable to access their accounts

It is one of the world’s most popular digital payment services.

But PayPal was down for over two hours this morning, leaving thousands unable to access their accounts.

Although the company has yet to comment on the cause, Down Detector reports showed outages from 11:00 GMT.

A spokesman for Paypal told MailOnline: ‘We experienced a brief technical issue which has been resolved.’

Of the 6,000 PayPal users who reported problems with the service by midday, nearly 90 percent said they were unable to log into their accounts.

This unexpected issue sparked widespread claims that the site had been hacked, as users were unable to access their accounts.

On social media, furious customers have rushed to vent their frustrations over the disruption.

“Looks like PayPal is having a complete meltdown as no one can log in or get through their call center,” wrote one commenter on X.
