Bucks County’s Sabrina Carpenter ‘arrests’ SNL’s Domingo at concert in LA

Two worlds collided Sunday when an “SNL” star made a guest appearance at Sabrina Carpenter’s Short n’ Sweet Tour.

Carpenter, of Bucks County, brought out Marcello Hernandez, known for playing the character Domingo on “Saturday Night Live,” during her concert at the Kia Forum in Inglewood, California on Sunday night. Hernandez’s performance was part of a Short n’ Sweet Tour tradition in which Carpenter “arrests” a guest who is “too hot” before performing her song, “Juno.”

The venue erupted as Hernandez shouted, “Sabrina, I’m here! My name is … Domingo,” between songs. As in character for “SNL,” Hernandez sported a dark blue suit and a fake goatee. The elaborate stage behind Carpenter began to glow with red and blue lights, mimicking police sirens, as she approached him.

Watch: Domingo ‘arrested’ by Sabrina Carpenter

“Is there anything you want to say before I arrest you, Domingo?” Carpenter asked on stage.

“Come all this way, had to explain, straight from Domingo,” Hernandez sang to the tune of Carpenter’s hit single, “Espresso.” “Sabrina is a friend. She’s like my sister, but I wanted to join in.”

What ‘SNL’ skit is Domingo from?

Hernandez’s response was a reference to Domingos first SNL appearance on 12 Oct.

In the sketch, Hernandez parodies “Espresso” alongside Ariana Grande, Heidi Gardner, Ego Nwodim and Sarah Sherman. The women play as bridesmaids for their friend, played by Chloe Fineman. During the wedding reception, the bridesmaids – completely off key – cover the song and share a story about how their friend met and fell in love with a man named Domingo during her bachelorette party. Towards the end of the sketch, Domingo appears and confesses the story to the groom.

According to BillboardCarpenter approved of the parody and shared the video to his Instagram story with the caption, “Vice nice and on pitch.” Grande responded, “hush (thank you) we tried.”

Domingo recently appeared on “Saturday Night Live” in a similar skit with Gardner, Nwodim, Sherman and musical guest Charli XCX.

The Domingo sequel takes place at a baby shower where the women cover Chappell Roan’s “HOT TO GO” and share a story about how the mother-to-be, Fineman, reunited with Domingo.

Carpenter has routinely featured familiar faces during her Short n’ Sweet Tour. On Friday night, she brought out Christina Aguilera during her show at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. And earlier, she called out Millie Bobby Brown at her concert in Atlanta before performing “Juno.”

Carpenter was the musical guest on ‘SNL’ for last spring’s season finale .

Earlier this month, the Quakertown native was nominated for six Grammys, including record of the year and best pop solo performance (for the No. 1 hit “Espresso”) and song of the year for co-writing “Please, Please, Please,” which Carpenter also went to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. She shares composing honors with Amy Allen and Jack Antonoff.

Carpenter’s album “Short n’ Sweet” is nominated for Album of the Year. It is also nominated for Best Pop Vocal Album.

She’s also nominated for Best New Artist, despite Carpenter being signed to a record deal 10 years ago and having six albums and two EPs to her credit. Yes, another Grammy head scratcher.

Born in Quakertown, her family lived in nearby East Greenville, Montgomery County, before going to Los Angeles to pursue her career at age 13.

Along with her music career, Carpenter is also an actress whose best-known role was as Maya Hart on “Girl Meets World,” which ran from 2014 to 2017. She has also appeared on “Law & Order: SVU” and the films ” Adventures in Babysitting ” (2016 version), “Tall Girl” (2019) and “Work It (2020).”
