Coastal Flood Warning Expires for Charleston, Colleton Counties

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) – The National Weather Service said a coastal flood warning issued for two counties Saturday morning is no longer in effect.

The agency issued the warning to 10 for Charleston and coastal Colleton Counties.

High tide occurred around 8 and was expected to reach major flood stage, which could cause one to two feet of flooding along shorelines and tidal waterways, Live 5 First Alert meteorologist Chris Holtzman said.

That flood would make roads impassable in flood-prone areas.

The Highway 61 ramp from US 17 SB in West Ashley closed just before 7:30 a.m. due to flooding.

Parts of Lockwood Drive, Fishburne Street and Hagood Avenue were also closed due to flooding, according to Charleston’s road closure page.

The National Weather Service said flooding was expected for up to two hours after high tide.

If roads are closed due to flooding, authorities say motorists should never go around barricades on flooded roads.
