How to watch Stockport vs Wrexham: TV channel, live stream, team news and prediction

Wrexham take on old foes Stockport County this weekend in a League One clash that could have major implications in the race for promotion.

Stockport and Wrexham have been neck and neck throughout their journey from National League drag to shoot up in the EFL.

The two teams finished 1st and 2nd in League Two last season and both have had excellent starts to life in the third tier.

Although County finished on top last term, it is Phil Parkinson’s side who have the advantage so far this season as the rivals gear up to meet each other for the first time in the campaign.

Wrexham are currently third, four points above sixth-placed Stockport, having played a game less.

The Red Dragons will be hoping to press their advantage and close the gap on the top two with a win.

Stockport County vs Wrexham team news

Wrexham’s ever-growing list of injuries got even longer last week after the EFL Trophy tie against Port Vale.

Both Will Boyle and Luke Bolton picked up injuries in the game, while No.1 goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo has been sidelined for six weeks.

Callum Burton comes in between the sticks for his first League One start.

That’s in addition to the already injured trio of George Evans, Jack Marriott and Steven Fletcher.

Veteran striker Fletcher has now also suffered a setback in his recovery.

“Steven Fletcher trained last week but has had a bit of a setback and he’s seeing a specialist today so we’ll know more after that,” Parkinson said in his pre-match press conference.

Parkinson also hinted that Jon Dadi Bodvarsson could start the game after being taken off after an hour to save his legs against Port Vale.

“Jon hasn’t played (a lot of football) and I’ve always wanted to get him off after 60 minutes,” Parkinson said.

“I wanted to stretch Mo (Faal) further but he got a cramp and we couldn’t afford to get him or Jon injured because the league is so important.

“And we’re already with Jack Marriott and Steven Fletcher.”

Forecast

If the injuries weren’t bad enough, the story is also against Wrexham.

The Red Dragons have lost on their last four visits to Edgeley Park – 5-0 last time out – and their opponents picked up a galvanic 5-0 win over Bolton Wanderers last weekend.

However, Wrexham will take confidence from the fact that they have only lost one of their last eight matches, although many of the wins have been narrow affairs.

Forecast: Stockport 2-2 Wrexham
