A native of s-Gravenzande, Netherlands, Leerdam began competing in speed skating early in life and was named World Junior Speed ​​Skating Champion at the age of 18. Leerdam participated in the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing, China and won an Olympic silver medal in the 1000 meters.
