How to watch Miss Universe 2024 preliminary pageant: times, TV, online streaming

This weekend, we’ll find out the identity of Sheynnis Palacios’ successor as Miss Universe as the beauty pageant’s grand finale takes place in Mexico City. Before then, however, the 2024 competition record 127 participants must negotiate Thursday’s preliminary competition, from which 30 delegates advance to Saturday’s last show.

Who chooses the Miss Universe grand final qualifier?

During the prelude in the Mexican capital, The Miss Universe selection committee will choose 29 of the 30 semi-finalists which will advance to the weekend’s main event, including four continental queens (for Latin America and the Caribbean; Europe; Africa; and Asia and Oceania). The remaining qualification for the grand final is decided by a fan vote.

Pageant organizers have revealed that there will be no evening gown competition in Thursday’s lead-up; delegates will only parade in bathing suits and national costumes. In the grand final, the top 30 are then reduced to 12, who take to the stage in evening gowns. Five finalists will then compete in a question-and-answer round, with the winner of this Q&A declared the new Miss Universe.

How can I watch the Miss Universe preliminaries in the USA?

In the United States, The Miss Universe preliminary pageant will be broadcast by the free Spanish-language network Telemundo today, November 14, from 9:00 PM ET/6:00 PM PT. According to the broadcaster, viewers will be able to follow the event live on the Telemundo app, Telemundo.com/MissUniverso, Telemundo’s YouTube channel, and the broadcaster’s Facebook, Instagram, X and TikTok accounts.

English language coverage of the preliminaries is available at the Miss Universe Organization’s YouTube channelbut it is for members only. To access this content, you must have a ‘VIP Emerald’ or ‘VIP Diamond’ subscription to the channel priced at $19.99/month and $29.99/month respectively.

Like the grand finale, the inaugural competition will be held in Mexico City’s 22,000-seat Arena Ciudad de Méxicowith former Miss Universe Olivia Culpo and TV host Mario Lopez as the hosts.

Thirteen people will make up the selection committee for the party’s 73rd edition. They are: music producer Emilio Estefan, influencer Lele Pons; artist Romero Britto; fashion designer Eva Cavalli; former Miss Universe Margaret Gardiner; TV host Jessica Carrillo; designer Michael Cinco; businessman and influencer Gianluca Vacchi; philanthropist and entrepreneur Dr. Camila Guiribitey; actress, singer and songwriter Fariana; Nova Stevens, Miss Universe Canada 2020; art collector Gary Nader; and fashionista Gabriela González.
