Alex Pereira issues a seven-word response to Jon Jones demanding a unique title fight

Things seem to be getting a little confusing in the UFC’s heavyweight division, with Jon Jones and Alex Pereira seemingly agreeing to fight each other.

There has been an awful lot of controversy surrounding Jon Jones’ return to the Octagon this coming Saturday at UFC 309, where the heavyweight champion will defend his title against Stipe Miocic.

Since winning the vacant heavyweight belt last March, the 37-year-old has yet to defend it after suffering a torn pectoral which resulted in his originally scheduled fight against Miocic being delayed.

Alex Pereira responds to Jon Jones after his title fight offer

The heavyweight division has been surrounded by controversy for what feels like the last two years since Francis Ngannou began to struggle with the promotion.

Things then got more confusing last November when Tom Aspinall won the interim title following Jones’ injury, especially since the UFC hasn’t put together a title collection.

Despite that, Jones has caused an uproar throughout the UFC fanbase this week, stating that he is unlikely to fight Aspinall if he retains his title this weekend.

Instead, the 37-year-old has sparked talks about a potential superfight against light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira. ‘Bones’ stated that he believes a fight against Pereira would do more for his legacy than a unification fight against the Brit.

Jones even went on to claim that he would vacate the heavyweight title to fight Pereira next for a newly integrated BMF heavyweight title.

“Chama my brother. Let’s make them wait…” Pereira responded to Jones in a post on Instagram, tagging both Jones and UFC CEO Dana White.

Tom Aspinall calls UFC 309 main event ‘most contested title fight ever’

Despite Jones being widely regarded as the greatest fighter of all time, his recent antics regarding Aspinall and the heavyweight title have not gone down well with the fans, and Aspinall for that matter.

The 31-year-old Brit even became one of the only fighters in UFC history to defend his interim belt earlier this year at UFC 304, knocking out Curtis Blaydes within the first two minutes of their rematch.

In a recent response to Jones’ dismissive comments, Aspinall called both Jones and Miocic ‘old farts’ and claimed their undisputed title fight is actually ‘the most contested title fight ever’.

“It’s being fought for an undisputed heavyweight title, now to me this is far from undisputed, this is the most contested title you could get… Let’s be honest, it’s two old farts fighting each other for a title, they occupies it which is strange,” Aspinall said in his response.
