Recruiting Roundup: The latest updates on the pursuit of five-star Bryce Underwood

We’re less than a month away from college football’s early signing period, and there’s plenty of recruiting news to be had between now and then.

Let’s dive into the latest updates in this bi-weekly edition of the Recruiting Roundup, starting with the recruit Michigan fans have been talking about.

The latest on the pursuit of five-star Bryce Underwood

We all know the story of Bryce Underwood at this point – he is the one the top recruit in the 2025 classplays at Belleville High School, committed to LSU in January, and Michigan has made a NIL push to land him.

Underwood’s camp has understandably been quiet about this, and there has been a LOT of speculation surrounding Underwood’s decision among Michigan social media.

Here is the latest information from 247Sports’ Allen Trieu ($)one of the more connected recruiting reporters in the game.

  • Underwood visited LSU this past weekend for the blowout loss to Alabama, and by all accounts it was a good visit despite the outcome of the game.
  • Don’t expect any big declarations after that LSU visit, based on how quiet Underwood’s camp has been. Maybe they don’t want all this news, including the recent addition of manifesto writer and former vacuum salesman Connor Stalions to Belleville’s coaching staffto distract from the pursuit of a state title.
  • Underwood going ahead with this LSU visit, despite rampant unfounded rumors, is a good sign for LSU.
  • Citing sources, Trieu reported that the Tigers feel much more solid in their position with Underwood after the visit.
  • Not much changes for Michigan with all of this, as Trieu reports that Michigan is still “doing everything it can to keep him home.”
  • Right now, Underwood is staying at LSU despite a significant NIL offer. That said, NIL doesn’t seem to be the only factor here. Per Trieu, Michigan’s offensive performance and their plan for the future also play a role.
  • Who the offensive coordinator is at both of those schools will be a factor in his decision.

We’ll keep you posted on the latest on Michigan’s pursuit of flipping Underwood, something that would bring seismic changes to the program if Michigan can pull it off.

Michigan DL commits to visit Wisconsin this weekend

Michigan picked up a commitment from four-star defensive lineman Jaylen Williams back in June, but it sounds like it’s not exactly a done deal for him to come to Ann Arbor.

The Wolverine’s EJ Holland ($) reported that Williams is expected to visit Wisconsin this weekend when the Badgers host No. 1 Oregon ducksalong with former Michigan quarterback commit Carter Smith.

Williams has been pretty quiet since committing. It’s not uncommon for committed recruits to still take visits, but in this particular case, it’s worth paying attention to how this visit goes for Williams, considering he’s visiting with a scorned prior commitment.

The top-300 edge is scheduled to visit Michigan later this month

The Wolverines have only one true asset in their 2025 class — four-star Julius Holly — and it looks like they’re trying to land another.

Tobi Haastrup, who plays high school football in Houston, Texas, will visit USC (Nov. 16), Michigan (Nov. 23) and Oregon (Nov. 30) later this month. The defender assessed 275. on the compound is originally from London, England and didn’t start playing soccer until his senior year of high school after growing up playing soccer and participating in track and field.

Haastrup spoke with 247’s Mike Roach ($) on what he’s looking for from coaching staffs recruiting him.

“Definitely transparency,” he said. “To have a coach look me in the eye and tell me things he’s told me over the phone, and to see the love they have for their athletes. Just to see and observe them when we’re not even talking and observe their qualities. What is their pitch to me? Every coach has a different pitch, but what really stands out to me is when a coach expresses it, and it’s not just through his words, but I can see through his presentation or his gesture that he really needs a player like me who can impact teams. I just don’t want to be another number. It’s stuff I pick up as I go.”

Haastrup said he is set to make a decision on Dec. 2, two days before signing day.

Quick Hitters

-Don’t think we’ve mentioned the year 2030 in these roundups before, but there’s a first for everything. Michigan has extended an offer to 2030 recruit (i.e., a current eighth grader) Sam Holcomb, son of JJ McCarthy’s childhood quarterback coach, Greg Holcomb.

Trieu reported earlier this week that 2026 four-star Toledo cornerback Victor Singleton is set to visit Michigan for the Northwestern game, a week before the visit Texas A&M.

– Speaking of visits, for the Northwestern game on Nov. 23, Michigan will host four-star offensive tackle and Washington commit Zac Stascausky, as reported by Brice Marich with The Michigan Insider ($).
