Hugh Grant recently shared his thoughts on the beloved Notting Hill character.

In an interview with Vanity Fair, Grant said his character William Thacker, who was the love interest of Julia Roberts’ Anna Scott, lacked courage.

“When I’m flipping through the channels at home after a few drinks and this comes on, I’m just like, ‘Why does my character have no balls?’ There’s a scene in this movie where she’s in my house and paps comes to the front door and rings the bell, and I think I just let her walk past me and open the door,” he said.

The actor added: “I’ve never had a girlfriend, or actually now a wife, who hasn’t said, ‘Why the hell didn’t you stop her? What’s wrong with you?’ And I don’t really have an answer to that – that’s how it was written, and I think he’s despicable.’

It’s worth mentioning that Grant has often criticized his previous films, including The Rewrite.

But to talk to The Hollywood Reporter he clarified: “I’ve read that I hate all my movies. It’s not true, the movies are often great. It’s just me who hates. I always think, ‘Oh, you’ve fucked it up.’ You never have good with your own stuff it’s like the old days of answering machines you always felt sick when you heard your own voice and watching yourself on film is that time 50.
