Joan and Chock are ready to party – and then take NYC!

After getting engaged on Wednesday, November 13, episode of The Golden Bachelor, Joan Vassos and Shock Chapple will celebrate their relationship with a big engagement party in Los Angeles before heading to the East Coast.

“It’s going to be bigger than most weddings,” Chock, 61, told Us Weekly of the party in the couple’s first exclusive interview. “We have friends coming in from all over the country and it’s kind of our coming out party as a couple. We are very excited about that.”

At the end of the week, the two will go apartment hunting in New York City.

“This first year, of course, we have to figure out life. Chock has a business in Kansas. I have children and grandchildren and Maryland. I’m not leaving Maryland, but he has commitments in Kansas,” Joan says Us. “We know we’re going to spend time in Maryland and in Kansas, but then we have this really fun plan because we’ve both always dreamed — and we’re finally at this weird stage in life to make this dream come true come true – that we live in a big city, and specifically we’ve always wanted to live in New York. So Chock surprised me and said, “I want us to find a place.”

Disney/Ricky Middlesworth The Golden Bachelorette Season 1 contestant Chock Chapple captured viewers’ hearts from the moment he stepped out of the limo. “At 60 years old, I have been able to do so much. I’ve been loved, I’ve traveled, had children, been successful in business and other things,” said Chock during the premiere episode in September (…)

The two both agree that this is the perfect adventure for their first year as a couple.

“We both love the energy of the city and love that there’s always something to do,” Joan continued. “We just want to go out and experience life — go to fun restaurants and (experience) the culture. We both have friends there. We’ll be there for the holidays, which is the best time ever in New York City. I just think that is a really different life than any of us have ever lived.”

Joan added that Chock’s two children – Taylor25 and Tyler23, which he shares with his ex-wife, Heather — also lives on the East Coast.

“It might make the decision a little bit easier. And I don’t think I ever thought I’d say this, but I’m excited to get out and spend time in Kansas (too)!” she explained. “He’s got a great life there and he’s got great friends and I’m looking forward to going and just hanging out with them. He’s out like every night of the week and I can hear noise in the background of all his friends, you know, having a good time. So I’m excited to go to Kansas.”

Chock noted that he would “never” ask Joan to be too far from her family in Maryland. She has four children – Nick34, Erica33, Allison30 and Luke28 – which she shared with deceased husband John as well as three grandchildren.

“We have to navigate that. We’re willing to spend time in each person’s hometown. We’re going to spend a lot of time in New York City,” he said. “We’re moving on with our lives.”
