Jordan Mailata activated; the latest on DeVonta Smith

game

PHILADELPHIA − The Eagles activated left tackle Jordan Mailata from injured reserve and will play Thursday night against the Washington Commanders.

Mailata suffered a hamstring injury against the Cleveland Browns on October 13th and was placed on IR a few days later. He missed the required minimum four games before returning to practice this week. But because of the short turnaround for Thursday’s game, the Eagles only had walk-through drills, with Eagles coach Nick Sirianni saying the staff had to be “creative” to get Mailata ready to play.

Fred Johnson replaced Mailata for the remainder of the Browns game, and the four games Mailata missed. The Eagles won all five games.

Mailata was asked Tuesday what it would take before he knows if he would be ready.

“Many more reps, knock the rust off,” he said. “I’ve got to feel confident stepping on that field. Again, I’m trusting the training and the program they’ve put in place for me to get back to this game. So just check the boxes to get back on the field.”

The Eagles had already made room for Mailata’s return on the 53-man roster by releasing tight end Jack Stoll on Tuesday.

The Eagles announced on their final injury report Wednesday that everyone on the roster is eligible to play. That includes WR DeVonta Smith (hamstring), TE Dallas Goedert (ankle) and CB Darius Slay (ankle). They were listed as limited Tuesday in an estimate for a full practice.

Only Smith was listed as limited Wednesday.

For the Commanders, running back Brian Robinson returns after missing two games with a hamstring injury. But cornerback Marshon Lattimore, whom the Commanders traded for on Nov. 5, is out for a second straight game with a hamstring injury. So Lattimore’s debut with the Commanders will have to wait another game.
