John Lewis fans make predictions about Christmas adverts as curious new teaser

Nothing screams the start of Christmas quite like John Lewis Christmas ad drop. And that time is almost upon us.

John Lewis has posted a teaser for this year’s Christmas advert on social media, announcing that it will be released next week on Thursday 14 November.

The teaser features just three short notes of music behind a video of people skating around a sofa. But the vagueness of the teaser hasn’t stopped fans rushing to the comments to speculate what song and themes might be behind 2024’s John Lewis Christmas advert.

John Lewis posted the teaser on Instagram. They wrote: “Tick-tock, tick-tock. #Givetime”, which has sent fans into a frenzy.

Someone wrote: “OMG – the moment everyone is waiting for”, while another person commented: “Christmas doesn’t start until the JL ad”.

People can’t wait to enjoy the ad next week. One John Lewis fan wrote: “Roll November 14th, officially the start of Christmas” and another agreed: “Christmas officially starts”.

Social media users have gone wild guessing the ad’s themes. Someone wrote: “I think the sofa will contain a generation of a family, over Christmas past and present, and I’m sure it will be a tearjerker.”

Another person wished: “Please be a magic sofa, the thing that comes alive”

In addition to guessing what the content of the ad might contain, people also guess the song. Someone wrote: “Is it time and time again I can hear?” And another person agreed: “Is it time and time again…?! Can’t wait!!”

But another person disagreed, commenting: “Do I hear Strings’ Unstoppable?”

The good thing is that we don’t have to wait long. It will all be revealed next week, Thursday, November 14.

While John Lewis somewhat pioneered the Christmas advert tradition, other major brands have started their own in recent years. Someone commented on John Lewis’ announcement: “So excited. So many good ones this year, but John Lewis is always the King of Ads at Christmas time”.
