Costco butter recalled: 80,000 pounds recalled due to unusual mislabeling

Nearly 80,000 pounds of butter sold at the warehouse chain Costco are being recalled due to an undeclared allergen.

In October, the Food and Drug Administration issued a recall of 79,200 Kirkland Signature butters from Continental Dairy Facilities Southwest LLC due to an undeclared allergen. The recall was reclassified to a Class II on November 7 to indicate that the product may cause “a situation in which use of or exposure to an offending product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences.”

The FDA said salted and unsalted Kirkland Signature Sweet Cream Butter list cream as an ingredient, but may not include a “Contains milk” allergy statement on the packaging.

The recall includes:

  • Kirkland Signature Unsalted Sweet Cream Butter, 16 oz. four 4 oz. sticks, UPC 96619-38496
  • Kirkland Signature Salted Sweet Cream Butter, 16 oz. Four 4 oz. sticks, UPC 96619-38488

The products come with a “best buy” date between February 22, 2025 – March 29, 2025.

If you purchased Kirkland Signature butter on or before October 11th and it matches the recall information and you have a sensitivity or allergy to milk, please dispose of it or return it to Costco for a refund.
