Coffee crisis as Starbucks app crashes for Americans on their way to work

Starbucks’ mobile app crashed for Americans on their way to work Friday, less than a day after it dropped its new holiday menu.

Downdetector, which tracks app and website outages, reported that more than 2,500 customers complained of problems with the app since around 7:00 a.m. ET.

The outage has spread across the United States, affecting customers in major cities such as New York, Dallas, Washington, DC and Boston.

The trouble didn’t start until Thursday, when Starbucks released its holiday menu featuring fan favorites like its Gingerbread Oat Milk Chai and Peppermint Mocha.

Although the company said it had fixed the app’s outage, customers were furious as they still couldn’t access it a day later.

“Can you please get it together?” someone wrote on X.

‘Day two of this nonsense of having to stand in line to order my coffee like a peasant because your app is broken.’

The Starbucks app won’t allow customers to view its new holiday menu or choose a location to order from, leaving many wondering how to get their caffeine fix when they’re pressed for time.

“Can’t choose a store to order from, the menu isn’t there,” an irate Starbucks customer complained to DownDetector.

“I want to see what new holiday drinks they have but I can’t because I can’t choose a location,” another customer wrote.

When a customer on X complained that she couldn’t access the Starbucks app, the company responded saying that it is ‘currently experiencing a temporary outage of the order-ahead-and-pay functionality in our app’.

Starbucks added on its customer service account: “We continue to welcome and serve customers in our drive-thru and in-store.”

However, customers argue that they don’t have time to go inside and order and expressed disappointment that they can’t get their much-desired holiday drink.

‘Is the Starbucks app seriously down again?’ one person wrote on X and added: ‘I can’t take any more disappointments this week.’

Another person said in despair that they just wanted to order their holiday drink, while another commented: ‘Starbucks app is down and all I wanted was a peppermint cold brew.’

Starbucks has not confirmed what caused the outage or when it will be back to normal.
