Trump’s victory casts a cloud over TSMC and Samsung’s US chip plans

PALO ALTO, Calif. – Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. and South Korea’s Samsung face an uncertain future in the US as the two Asian chip giants wait to see whether the next administration under Donald Trump will continue to support their massive expansion plans.

The president-elect has criticized the bipartisan CHIPS Act, legislation passed in August 2022 under President Joe Biden that provides billions of dollars in aid to bring semiconductor manufacturing to American soil.
