Robert Morris himself is looking to record on the season

Robert Morris opened their season by beating West Virginia in Darian DeVries’ first game as coach of the Mountaineers in Morgantown. The Colonials are 0-1 on the season and look to bounce back here to even their record. Against West Virginia, Robert Morris struggled to slow down the Mountaineers’ offense and had trouble knocking down shots of their own, sending them down to defeat. The Colonials were down 46-26 at the half, and despite playing better in the second half, never made a sustained push to get back into the game. It will take a better offensive display than we saw on Monday night for the team to be successful.

In the game, Robert Morris was limited to 32.4% shooting from the floor, including six of 24 from three-point range, and allowed West Virginia to shoot 55% in the contest. The Colonials managed to win the rebounding battle 41-37, including pulling down 16 offensive boards, but turned the ball over 13 times. Josh Omojafo was the lone player in double figures for Robert Morris as he scored 13 points, although seven of them came at the charity stripe. He went just three of nine from the floor in the contest. DJ Smith and Ismael Plet each finished with eight points, while Kam Woods had seven points, though he was a completely ineffective factor from a shooting perspective as he missed 13 of his 16 shots from the floor.

Blue hens shoot to regroup at home

Delaware battled back only to find itself outshot at home by Bucknell in their season opener on Monday night. The Blue Hens hope to rally at home here to get back into the win column and even their mark on the young season. Against Bucknell, Delaware was in command of the game in the first half, but their offense seemingly hit a wall after halftime, allowing the Bison to rally, regroup and take control of the contest. The Blue Hens simply seemed to run out of answers in the second half as Bucknell dropped the hammer on them to erase a nine-point halftime deficit.

In the game, the Blue Hens led 46-37 at halftime and by as many as 12 in the game, only to fade in the second half. Delaware was outscored 48-27 in the second half of the game to end up with the loss. The Blue Hens were held to 42.2% shooting in the contest, including eight of 26 from three-point range, and lost the rebounding battle by a 40-32 margin. Delaware allowed Bucknell to shoot 52.7% from the field, including 10 of 19 from beyond the arc, and was dominated 38-18 in points in the paint in the contest. Erik Timko led three players in double figures for the Blue Hens as he put up 20 points in the loss. John Camden contributed 19 points while Niels Lane added 16 in the contest. The problem for the Blue Hens is that the rest of the team combined for just 18 points in 108 minutes of play. That includes just nine points from the bench over 57 combined minutes. They need to be better than what we saw for the Blue Hens to be successful.

Insider’s status:

Both teams had their issues in their respective openers and hope to regroup here. Delaware held a double-digit lead against Bucknell before getting rolling in the second half, and you have to believe they’ll get some better production from their bench than they did in the opener. Robert Morris struggled to shoot the ball with any kind of consistency against West Virginia in their opener as Woods struggled to shoot the ball with any kind of success. The Colonials will hang in the game thanks to their rebounding ability, but the fact that Delaware has a trio of guys who can put up points, plus being at home, gives them the upper hand in this contest.

Prediction: Delaware Blue Hens -5

Overall selection throughout the game

Rating:

Robert Morris went over the total in their season opener. The Colonials and Mountaineers combined for 146 points to surpass the 143.5 point mark set for that contest. Robert Morris gave up an effective field goal percentage of 66.7% for the Mountaineers, which needs to improve here. Delaware also blew past the total in their season-opening loss. The Blue Hens combined with the Bison for 158 points against a 140.5 point tally set by the books. Delaware allowed an effective field goal percentage of 61.8% in the game, including the 10 of 19 showing from beyond the arc. Look for both teams to put up decent offensive numbers and push this game over the line.

Prediction: Above 147.5
