Why is Cincinnati Bengals Rookie Jermaine Burton inactive on Sunday vs Raiders

CINCINNATI — Bengals rookie wide receiver Jermaine Burton is a surprise inactive on Sunday.

The 23-year-old is healthy, and the Bengals made him a significant part of the offensive game plan during the week.

What changed?

Burton was a no call, no show for Saturday’s walkthrough, according to multiple league sources.

“We’re working through it,” Burton’s agent Trevon Smith said via text. “Still maturing and growing.”

The Bengals selected Burton in the third round (80th overall) of the 2024 NFL Draft. He had a 41-yard catch last week against the Eagles and has two catches on the season.

Head coach Zac Taylor and star quarterback Joe Burrow praised Burton for Sunday’s game against the Raiders.

They built their game plan around him this week with Tee Higgins nursing a quad injury.

That obviously changed after Saturday’s missed review.

Hopefully we’ll get more details after the game. The Bengals’ brass is expected to address the situation after Sunday’s game according to Paul Dehner Jr. by The Athletic.
