Beaufort Co. deputies locate 40 escaped primates

BEAUFORT COUNTY, SC (WCSC) – The Yemassee Police Department is working with staff at the Alpha Genesis Primate Research Center to locate 40 escaped primates.

Beaufort County deputies confirmed in a mail to X that the primates escaped from the research center located on Castle Hall Road in Yemassee on Wednesday night. They also sought the public’s help.

Traps have been set up around the area with Yemassee Police on the scene using thermal cameras in an attempt to locate the animals.

Residents are advised to keep all doors and windows secured to prevent the primates from entering the home.

If anyone finds one of the escaped primates, authorities say not to interact with them and instead call 911 immediately.
