Within moments of Trump reclaiming the presidency yesterday, activity on fringe platforms included hateful and violent rhetoric in support of Trump, including calls for mass executions. The violent and hateful messages emanated from several organized far-right, white supremacist and neo-Nazi groups, now emboldened to spread hatred and violent rhetoric with the promise of Trump’s return to power.

One of the most vocal groups since the election has been white supremacy Proud boyswhose manager and members helped orchestrate uprising on January 6, 2021. Several chapters posted messages celebrating Trump’s victory, signaling their readiness to mobilize for him. Both Villain City Proud Boys and Toledo proud boys invoked the “stand back and stand by” slogan made famous by Trump during a 2020 presidential debate to signal their readiness to mobilize at his command. Toledo Proud Boys announced they were “stand(ing) ready to help President Trump,” while Villain City Proud Boys posted a picture of Trump wearing a gold and black (Proud Boy colors) hat and a gold tie with the words “STAND BY”.

The accounts also spewed vile misogyny at Kamala Harris. One account associated with Proud Boys referred to Harris as a “Cackling hyena, race card playing wh*re” who “has been denied.” The message was followed by a greeting, “Hail Trump,” reminiscent of how Nazis addressed Hitler.

After the election results, which they were satisfied did not favor a female candidate, the Proud boys from Columbus announced that “now the real work begins” to “undo the damage the Biden/Harris administration has caused.” Various Proud Boys chapters aimed to manifest this “real work” in several ways. Some supported the Heritage Foundation’s Christian Nationalist Project 2025 agenda. For example, Proud Boys Ohio declared that “project 2025 was right!” and called to “RELEASE THE PROJECT 2025 HANDMAIDS TALE RAPE SQUADS.” Others urged Trump to do as he promised and pardon those convicted of felonies on Jan. 6, which includes much of the Proud Boys leadership. Bluegrass Proud Boys demanded“AVOID EVERY JANUARY SIX, NO EXCEPTIONS.” This feeling was echoed by more other Proud boys chapters.

And violence was called for. Proud Boys Ohio made two posts with photos of Vice President JD Vance looking at the camera with the caption “we will fucking kill you” and “we will kill you.” The Proud Boys made sure to clarify who their threat was aimed at, saying, “The message is for the libtards, you fucking piece of shit.” “Libtard” is a pejorative term commonly used by the far right to describe liberals or anyone on the political left. A few follow-up threats, such as “RIP-fa***ts,” coupled with the use of terms like “rape squads,” serve as a worrying indicator of the targeting of marginalized groups such as The LGBTQ+ community and women that Proud Boys apparently feel emboldened to threaten in a more explicit way.
