First alarm in place due to rain chances on election day

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) – An initial alert is in place Tuesday as some passing showers could dampen Election Day in the Carolinas.

  • Today: First alert: Showers, cool 60s
  • Wednesday: Warmer 70s, dry most of the day
  • Thursday: New First Alert: Wet AM commute

Scattered showers are forecast today, election day. It won’t rain all day, but there will be a threat of showers at any time. Afternoon temperatures will primarily run in the 60s and stay there overnight with a lingering shower risk.

There is a possibility of some wet weather after election day.

Mostly cloudy, but mostly dry for most of Wednesday. However, as a front slowly approaches from the center of the country midweek, our rain chances will increase Wednesday night into early Thursday.

With rain becoming more widespread and perhaps heavier in places, there is now a new first alert for Thursday as the morning commute looks to be quite wet. The rain should taper off in the afternoon. Highs both Wednesday and Thursday will reach the warm 70s.

Friday looks dry with highs in the 70s.

As for the weekend, there is still some uncertainty regarding the weather forecast. Moisture from Tropical Storm Rafael, now in the northern Caribbean, may be shunted eastward from the northern Gulf of Mexico, perhaps increasing our rain chances. Nothing is set in stone yet, so please check back for further forecast updates.
