Arne Slot reaction – What did the Liverpool manager say after the Reds extended their lead in foggy win at Anfield?

Liverpool manager Arne Slot saw his side bounce back from an early concession to beat Leicester City 3-1 on Thursday at a rain-soaked, fog-challenged Anfield.

Castle’s men opened up a seven-point lead on the pitch in the race for the Premier League trophy and Liverpool have a game in hand on all but local rivals Everton.

The Reds went behind to a Jordan Ayew goal in the seventh minute as Leicester capitalized on their first chance of the game to take an away lead.

But Alexis Mac Allister set up goals for Cody Gakpo and Curtis Jones to put the Reds in front and give the home fans who braved the elements a happy Boxing Day on Merseyside.

There was a dropped goal along the way that kept Leicester within shouting distance, but Liverpool controlled the ball and were good money for their win.

Arne Slot reaction – What did the Liverpool manager say after the Reds extended their lead in foggy win at Anfield?

About the performance: “Overall happy. Throughout the game we played the way we wanted to. The one thing we didn’t want was to go down 1-0 after 10 minutes. But we started well. The first time they threatened us it was a goal straight away. Sloppy defense though, so it was tough.”

Significance of Gakpo’s late first-half equaliser: “During the first 45 minutes we were around their 18-yard box many times. To score just before half-time really lifted us.”

On Jones and Gakpo’s goal: “Our wingers were in 1v1 situations and these players have the quality to dominate those situations and finish as well. Curtis Jones arrives in the box, something he should have done a bit more from the first half. As a Liverpool midfielder you have to score goals. “

On their impressive tableau: “We look at the table. It would be strange (not to). But we also know how tough this league is because two months ago we were one point behind City. What this league can do to you with injuries and suspensions – we have to be at the top of our game. West Ham are away on Sunday, again a challenging opponent.”

The first time he managed games around Christmas: “It doesn’t feel like Christmas at all. You could say it was September or November, and I’ll believe you. Normally you would be on vacation. But there are a lot of people watching at home and they like it like I liked it before.”

Mohamed Salah’s reaction — On the win and the Premier League

About the win: “It’s a good result. To be fair, they had a very tough first half and second half as they prepared before the game. The way they stood in front of the box was quite tough for us. We managed to score three goals, a fantastic result.”

On his 100th PL home goal (98 for Liverpool): “Something I am very proud of. We’ll keep working hard and hopefully I can go a little further. The team wins, that’s the most important thing. Hopefully we will win the Premier League and I will have a big impact on that.”

On having a seven-point lead in the table: “It’s great, great, but we’ve just got to focus on every game and carry on like that. … The most important thing is to stay humble. This one is very special. Hopefully we’ll win the Premier League for this club, I’ve dreamed of it. I really want to win the club.”
