Costco egg recall now classified as highest risk level, FDA says

(CNN) – The Food and Drug Administration said a recall of organic eggs sold at Costco is now classified as the highest risk level for potential salmonella contamination.

The upgraded level means there is “a reasonable likelihood” that a recalled product “will cause serious health consequences or death.”

It comes about a month after New York-based Handsome Brook Farms voluntarily recalled nearly 11,000 of the eggs.

The 24-count packages of organic pastured eggs were sold under the Kirkland Signature brand.

The eggs were distributed to 25 Costco stores in Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee.

They have an expiration date of January 6.

So far, there are no reports of anyone getting sick.

People who may have the eggs should either throw them out or return them to the store for a refund.
