Storms starting on Christmas Day, with the most severe risk arriving Thursday

Weather-wise, Christmas Eve night is fortunately relatively calm as the main line of storms approaches from northwest Louisiana. It’s a bit windy with small chances of a little sprinkle here and there before midnight.
Lows are warmer once again tonight, expect it to only drop into the upper 50s for our lows tonight, we may even stay in the lower 60s. Tomorrow will also warm up outside of periods where the rain may cool an area a bit, with a high looking to be near 70. The cold air certainly didn’t stick around to make it feel like Christmas, unfortunately.

However, showers will move into Louisiana overnight and tomorrow morning, bringing a low risk of isolated thunderstorms.
The models are currently divided by exactly which areas will see these showers. Fortunately, this will not be a washout all day and is not expected to cause flooding, but gusty winds at some point are possible. It’s a good idea to have a way to receive warnings overnight, in case any of these storms enter a favorable environment to cause potential damage.

On Thursday there will be greater chances of severe weather. Acadiana is between a level 1 and 2 out of 5 risk. So you need to be aware of the weather after the holidays. It is also possible that this will be upgraded as it depends on factors not yet determined by the models. We will follow these storms closely and keep you updated on the latest.
