Wuthering Waves 2.0 takes Genshin Impact’s combat-led rival to a new region

While Genshin Impact and Zenless Zone Zero continue their ever-growing march, one of the most exciting rivals to the HoYoverse action gacha games is preparing for a major update. Wuthering Waves 2.0 takes us away to the brand new area of ​​Rinascita, introducing new characters, weapons and much more story and side content. If you haven’t yet delved into this free-to-play contender for Genshin’s crown, its new update is a great chance to do so, arriving right at the start of 2025.

Wuthering Waves boasts all the flash and panache you’d expect from the best gacha games, but shines particularly brightly in the combat department. Developer Kuro Games made a conscious effort to focus on its combat systems, taking inspiration from the likes of Dark Souls to create a more skill-driven system that allows the best players to overcome higher-level enemies with good gameplay. It’s also designed to allow you to enjoy all of its content without feeling pressured to spend money, and because it’s a free PC game, you can jump in and try it out at no cost to see if it clicks for you.

Wuthering Waves 2.0 is titled ‘All Silent Souls Can Sing’ and sees us travel to the enchanted land of Rinascita, which includes several independent city-states. Alongside the new zone, look forward to the arrival of new playable characters Carlotta and Roccia, with several more resonators from the region to be released in subsequent updates as more Wuthering Waves banners roll out.

You don’t have to wait to get there either, as a main quest fast track feature allows you to jump to Rinascita and the 2.0 story after completing Chapter One, Act Three of the initial main quest. Expect plenty of quality-of-life upgrades in the new update: you can change your Rover’s appearance every 24 hours, access Synthesis on the go, and use the flight for smoother exploration of the new world, for example.

An immersion mode allows you to hide the UI to really sink into the experience, and the ability to challenge boss fights early will allow you to earn character upgrade materials for your newest resonators. In addition to the launch, a host of additional events are coming, ranging from exploration and companion invitation events to photo collections and battle challenges, including special cooperative tasks.
