QB Jameis Winston questionable for Week 16 vs. Bengals

The Browns announced the status of several players ahead of their Week 16 game against the Bengals.

TE David Njoku, CB Martin Emerson Jr., WR Cedric Tillman and QB Jameis Winston are all questionable for Sunday’s game.

Winston was a full participant Wednesday but a limited participant in Thursday’s practice with a right shoulder injury. Head coach Kevin Stefanski said Winston could “potentially” still be the backup quarterback behind Dorian Thompson-Robinson. Stefanski clarified that Winston’s right shoulder was sore.

“I want to see how he’s doing,” Stefanski said. “Really going through this week, didn’t feel great. But we’ll see how he reacts over the next few days.”

Njoku, who has been working through a hamstring injury that caused him to miss Week 15, did not participate in practice Wednesday and Thursday. However, he returned to training on Friday.

“I think he’s very motivated to play,” Stefanski said of Njoku. “We will see how he reacts to practice today and make the decision on Sunday.”

Emerson and Tillman have both been in the concussion protocol as they both deal with concussions. Stefanski said they are both in the right place in the protocol, is hopeful for both players for Sunday.

Emerson was evaluated for a head injury in Week 15 against the Chiefs and missed the second half of the game with the injury. He did not participate in practice Wednesday, but returned to practice Thursday as a limited participant.

Tillman returned to practice as a limited participant in practice this week as well. Tillman has missed three games with the concussion he first suffered in Week 12 against the Steelers.

DT Shelby Harris is out Week 16 with an elbow injury. Harris left Week 15 against the Chiefs with the elbow injury and did not participate in practice all week.

“Shelby has played really, really good football for us,” Stefanski said. “So it’s a thing where a bunch of guys have to take on a bigger role.”
