Paul Rudd, Jack Black’s comedy film will be released in 2025

Sony is putting its teeth into its comedy reboot Anaconda.

The studio announced Friday that filmmaker Tom Gormican’s remake of the snake-focused 1997 horror film will hit theaters just in time for the holidays on Dec. 25, 2025. Paul Rudd and Jack Black star in the new film from Columbia Pictures.

Gormican (The unbearable weight of massive talent) directs the film from a script he co-wrote with Kevin Etten. Brad Fuller and Andrew Form produce for Fully Formed.

In the video below, Rudd and Black tease the new project. “There’s going to be a big fucking snake and it’s going to rip,” Black says of the film.

Adds Rudd: “Do you want to be scared? Do you want to laugh? Do you want to celebrate with your friends? Or maybe you’re alone and sad and have no one but just want to forget it?”

The Hollywood Reporter reported in August that the film was in development. Plot details are kept in the belly of a snake.

Luis Llosa directed the 1997s Anacondawith a cast that included Jennifer Lopez, Owen Wilson, Ice Cube and Jon Voight. The first film, which spawned a series of sequels, focused on a National Geographic film crew in search of the world’s largest and deadliest snake.

The original Anaconda surpassed $136 million at the worldwide box office ($269 million today).

Rudd led this year Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire and stars with Jenna Ortega in A24’s Death of a unicornwhich is set for release this spring. Black had voice roles in the 2024 titles Kung Fu Panda 4 and Border areasand he participates A Minecraft moviewhich will be in theaters in April.
