Malik Nabers sets the Giants’ rookie receiving record

Rookie wide receiver Malik Nabers set the New York Giants record for receptions by a rookie in the first quarter of the Giants’ Week 16 game against Atlanta Falcons.

Nabers nabbed his 92nd catch of the year on a short pass that he turned into a first down, passing the previous record of 91 receptions as a rookie shared by Odell Beckham Jr. and Saquon Barkley.

The rookie has battled injuries this year while also being force-fed the ball for the record. Nabers entered the game as the Giants’ most targeted receiver with 29 touchdown passes despite playing in two fewer games than Wan’Dale Robinson, who is the second most targeted receiver.

Nabers was checked for a spike on his record-tying catch and missed the next few plays as he was brought into the blue medical tent for evaluation. He returned to the field a few plays later and contributed to the Giants’ touchdown drive.
