Max Launches ‘Max Rewind’ Personal 2024 Watchlists

Max jumps on the year-by-review bandwagon and releases its own Spotify Wrapped-esque marketing campaign that reveals subscribers’ personal viewing habits throughout the year.

Launching Thursday, the “Max Rewind” offering will be pushed out across all adult profiles on the Warner Bros. Discovery-owned streams through in-app notifications. Subscribers will then be able to access their personal Max Rewind, described as “a shareable and colorful look back at their watch history and community trends throughout the year.”

Per Max, “Each user will be assigned a grade according to their viewing history and will have access to a curated collection page with recommendations for each Max grade. Other elements that will be shared in the rewind include a subscriber’s top brand and genre, Max’s seasonal title highlights, their display pattern and top avatars.”

Although Max is probably most associated with HBO in the minds of consumers, the streamer includes content from all Warner Bros. Discovery’s linear brands and content library including Discovery, TLC, Food Network, ID, HGTV, Magnolia Network, Adult Swim/ Cartoon Network, TBS, DC and more.

Some key takeaways from the data show which genres were most popular in which states (comedy in California vs. drama in New York) and how big a hit the meerkat from “Crikey! It’s the Irwins TV series and “Pickle Rick”- the character from “Rick & Morty” are as selected profile avatars among subscribers.

The summary also revealed Max’s featured programming for each season across the app: “March Madness,” “Quiet on Set” and “The Sopranos” last winter, “Hacks” “The Sympathizer” and “The Matrix” this spring, “House ” of the Dragon, “Industry” and “The Leftovers” in the summer, and “The Penguin”, “Dune: Prophecy” and “Friends” in the fall.

While 2024 is the first year “Max Rewind” has been available, the feature was tested with a “small subset” of users last year, according to Warner Bros. Discovery. After the “successful” experiment, Max is now making the offer available to all global subscribers with adult profiles.

“At Max, we are committed to creating exciting and immersive ways for our subscribers to engage with and discover our expansive content library,” said Pepper Chiavacci, Senior Vice President, Product Management. “Max Rewind is a creative way for our subscribers to celebrate their favorite titles, gain deeper insight into their viewing habits and grow the community with other subscribers by sharing their rewinds and viewing recommended titles from the collection page.”
