Two charged in multiple mall shopliftings, released on OR – First condition update

Delaware State Police arrested 30-year-old Rashunda Smullen and 28-year-old Jerlysa Williams, both of Wilmington, Delaware, for multiple shoplifting incidents that occurred Monday afternoon at various stores in the Christiana Mall.

Officials said on December 16, 2024, at approximately 12:10 p.m., that troopers responded to a report of a shoplifting at Lens Crafters, located at 750 Christiana Mall in Newark. When troopers arrived, they discovered two female suspects had placed several pairs of glasses in their purses and walked out of the store with the unpaid merchandise, officials said Thursday. Troopers searched the mall for the suspects and located them at a nearby store and were arrested without incident.

Officials said a subsequent search of their purses led to the discovery of over $5,000 worth of stolen eyeglasses, as well as additional unpaid merchandise from other stores in the mall.

Further investigation revealed that Smullen and Williams were the suspects responsible for a shoplifting incident, according to the Apple Store. In addition, Williams was identified as the suspect responsible for shoplifting at Nordstrom and Cotton On Kids, police added.

Rashunda Smullen was charged with Shoplifting over $1,500 (a felony), Conspiracy 2nd Degree (a felony) and Shoplifting under $1,500. She was tried at the Peace Court 2 and released on her own recognizance.

Jerlysa Williams was charged with Conspiracy 2nd Degree (a felony) and four counts of shoplifting under $1,500. She was also arraigned by Justice of the Peace 2 and released on her own recognizance.
