New England map shows how much snow the Boston area will get today

A coastal storm is working its way into New England today and is expected to deliver a coating of 4 inches of snow to the Boston area and a swath of eastern Massachusetts as well as Rhode Island. A spot or two may reach 5 inches in Eastern Mass.

Rain and snow showers are expected to increase this afternoon before changing to mostly all snow in the evening as temperatures drop below freezing. The snowpack could make for some slick roads later today and tonight, so be careful out there.

The wind will come straight out of the northeast, making this a true northerly, though without the impact of a lot of snow. Wind gusts along the coast may exceed 30 miles per hour.
