United Airlines will increase service and offer new nonstop service to two major cities

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – United Airlines will offer more flights and a new direct service to two major US cities starting this summer.

The airline is increasing service to Chicago with flights offered daily between Wilmington International Airport (ILM) and Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD). New nonstop service to Denver International Airport (DEN) will be on Saturdays during the summer.

United had originally flown from ILM to ORD on weekends last summer, but after seeing high demand from passengers, they decided to increase the service from twice weekly to daily.

In a release, ILM said it has never had direct flights from Wilmington to Denver with any carrier before.

“Denver has been a top unserved market for Wilmington. We are pleased that United will begin Saturday service, connecting our two cities. United is increasing its presence in Wilmington, with direct to Newark, Chicago and Denver, and we thank them for have chosen our market for this growth,” stated Jeff Bourk, ILM Airport Director.

With these additions, United now serves three of its mainland hubs from Wilmington.

“United is proud to offer Wilmington residents and travelers passing through more flexibility when traveling,” said Mark Weithofer, executive director, Domestic Planning at United Airlines. “Chicago and Denver are not only great cities to visit, but they are home to our two largest hubs that help unlock travel to the most popular destinations.”
