Oklahoma’s governor orders an end to telecommuting for state employees by February 2025

Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt issued an executive order ending telecommuting for state employees.

According to the executive order, full-time employees are expected to be back in the office by 1 February 2025 at the latest.

“Governor Stitt just issued this executive order ending telecommuting for state employees,” said Rep. Forrest Bennet, posted on X. “I guarantee we will lose talented workers to the private sector who understand that flexibility in the workplace is essential for people to balance work and family commitments, this is anti-family.

The executive order notes that agency managers can make exceptions for those whose work hours are outside normal business hours, or if an agency’s office is at full capacity and additional space would require an additional charge.

Govt. Stitt released the following statement regarding the decision:

COVID changed the way we did business for a period of time, but that time has passed. Now we need to make stewardship of taxpayers’ money our top priority. Oklahomans deserve a government that operates with full accountability and delivers services efficiently. Returning to traditional work environments is a critical step in achieving this goal.
