When Steve Harvey left fans in splits with his funny video about 'being poor'

Remember when Steve Harvey made everyone laugh with his funny video about ‘being poor’? His perfect sense of humor and relatable jokes had fans in stitches. It’s one of those classic Steve Harvey moments that still brings a smile to people’s faces!
In a video from his 1997 HBO comedy special, ‘Steve Harvey: One Man,’ the comedian jokes about being restless and enjoying free stuff.
“I’m 38 years old, and I’ve been poor for 36 of those years,” he says, making the audience laugh. “I’m not lying. I just got some money last summer. I’m so happy to have money, I don’t even know what to do. Being poor was really hard on me.”
He went on to say that being “poor” gives a special appreciation for free things, like “government cheese”, something people with money wouldn’t really understand. “I’ve been standing in line for some cheese. I’ll stand in line all day!” he says.
“My first HBO half-hour special taping in Dallas, Texas,” Harvey said in describing his debut on the premium cable network. “Young man was developing a set of skills.”
As soon as he shared the video, likes and comments poured in from all sides. While one fan wrote, ‘When you’re this poor you’re poh’, another added: ‘HE SAID GOVAMINT CHEESE! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! oh Sh!# that was fun!’
In another video, Harvey had also given his fans some advice on dealing with haters. “Don’t stop haters, just keep going,” he had said in his “Brain Drops” segment on YouTube. “Don’t stop moving forward for something that has no bearing on where you’re going. They have no power unless you let them.”
Fans had praised him as much back then as they had for his blossoming comedy skills back then. While one fan said: “All the truth speak”, another added: “You’re right haters make me stronger.” One fan also shared: “I loved these new videos! Thanks Steve, I needed this exactly today!”
