49ers’ Brock Purdy leaves the game with apparent hand injury

The San Francisco 49ers are trying to finish the end of the 2024 regular season strong. They can do that by beating the Detroit Lions on Monday Night Football in Week 17.

The problem is that the team may have to move on this target star quarterback Brock Purdy. Purdy took a massive hit from a Lions defender and was immediately taken out of the game.

While on the sideline, Purdy began to move his hand and was in obvious pain. The telecast indicated that the right wrist and wrist were the issue for the 49ers signal caller.

Purdy left the game with about 1:30 left. Josh Dobbs immediately came in and started moving the ball while Purdy was on the sidelines trying to throw the ball with his injured hand.

Purdy appeared to be in significant pain and took off his helmet moments after attempting to throw the ball. Should this injury keep him out of the final game of the season, it will be a disappointing situation to end a rather disappointing season for the 49ers.

The 49ers are one year removed from a Super Bowl loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. They had been pegged as the NFC team to beat and predicted to make the postseason and the Super Bowl. However, they have already been eliminated from the playoffs.

San Francisco has dealt with injuries all season that have derailed their season. Star wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk was lost for the season after signing a big contract extension.

Deebo Samuel and George Kittle also missed games early in the season. One of the biggest injuries the team faced was losing Christian McCaffrey. The dual-threat running back missed most of the 2024 season with tendinitis in both feet. He would return in Week 10, only to suffer a PCL injury soon after.

The massive losses on both sides of the ball led to the 49ers having an underwhelming season. Now it looks like Purdy may join his co-stars and miss a game this season.

Purdy is due a big contract extension, and his injury likely won’t affect the extension. While it is believed that he will get a huge extension, he may not reset the market.

Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott reset the market to $60 million per season when he signed a record four-year, $240 million deal.

Purdy should command a high price himself, and the 49ers can also sit quarterback should this near-last-second injury affect him in any way before Week 18.
