49ers update on Brandon Aiyuk good news on recovery from knee injury

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk has a long way to go in his recovery from a knee injury he suffered in Week 7. However, head coach Kyle Shanahan had a positive update on Aiyuk when he spoke to the media on Saturday.

Aiyuk, who tore his ACL and MCL after taking a low hit against the Kansas City Chiefs, had surgery and is in the team facility undergoing rehab.

“Yeah, he buys into it,” Shanahan said. “I don’t really care about the rehab guys. They come in early in the morning and they’re usually out of here before we leave the training ground. But he went to LA for surgery, did the rehab there for a while, but he’s been back here for like the last month and been working hard. It is a long process, but he is on the right track.”

There’s still no set date for when the 49ers expect Aiyuk to return, but his early progress is a good sign. The key will be making sure the 2023 All-Pro doesn’t have any setbacks that could cost him even more time. Ideally, Aiyuk would return at some point during training camp so he could advance to the regular season, but the team also has no intention of rushing the 26-year-old back into action.

Aiyuk hauled in 25 receptions for 374 yards in seven games in 2024. He has 294 catches, 4,305 yards and 25 touchdowns in 69 games across four seasons.
