Rockslide closes Highway 96 east of Westcliffe, officials share alternate routes for drivers

CUSTER COUNTY, Colo. (KKTV) – A rock slide forced the closure of a highway east of Westcliffe.

According to CDOT, Highway 96 was closed in both directions Sunday after that rock slide. It happened in Custer County, near Greenhorn Highway, which was also closed near Highway 96.

Custer County deputies shared alternate routes for anyone needing to travel through the area:

1.) Rye to San Isabel to Mackenzie Junction via Highway 165 or

2.) Canon City to Westcliffe via Oak Creek Grade (CR 255) or

3.) Canon City to Westcliffe via Copper Gulch (CR 215) or

4.) Texas Creek to Westcliffe via Highway 69

They said there is no ETA on reopening as CDOT evaluates the scene.
