Deadline to ensure congestion pricing discounts take effect

Congestion fares will launch a week from Sunday, and the MTA is encouraging drivers who may be eligible for discounts and exemptions to apply for them by Dec. 29.

Most drivers must pay a $9 toll to enter Manhattan below 60th Street during rush hour.

Government vehicles and public transit buses are exempt. Motorcycles pay half price of $4.50.

Low-income drivers can register for a discount that applies after paying their first 10 full fare congestion charges each month.

There are also exemptions for those who are disabled or driving someone with a disability.

Check here for more details. Applications must be submitted online here.

Applicants must also have a valid E-ZPass New York account.

Sunday is the last day to apply to ensure the discounts and exemptions take effect on launch day, January 5, but applications will still be accepted after those days.
