Winter Weather Advisory issued for the Greater Lake Tahoe area Sunday

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for the Greater Lake Tahoe area, effective from 5.00 to 8.00 p.m. on Sunday.

The advisory warns of snow accumulations in the range of 2 to 6 inches, with areas above 7,000 feet west of Highway 89 potentially receiving up to 12 inches. Gusts are expected to reach 60 mph, with gusts possibly exceeding 100 mph. Lake Tahoe could experience wave heights between 2 to 5 feet.

Travelers should be prepared for difficult conditions over the Sierra Pass, as very strong winds can cause extensive damage to trees and power lines. The advisory warns that small boats, kayaks and paddleboards are at risk of capsizing and should avoid lake water until conditions improve.

Residents and visitors are advised to slow down and use caution when traveling. For the latest road conditions, individuals can call 511 for updates specific to their state.
